Letter to My Daughter – July 2013

Dear Daughter,
You are a dreamer, a wanderer and a flower picker 🙂
This month we went camping. You’re favorite activity is smelling the flowers. And you can’t help but pick them. You also loved going fishing again with your daddy, you asked about it every day until we finally were able to take you. We didn’t put a hook on the line yet, you just practiced casting. And you were quick to let us know you needed more practice so we should definitely take you again. 🙂

We also played at the beach with grandma, grandpa, auntie and oma.

We had a “mommy and me” day with walks and a park visit and you got to ride your new bike.  All in all a great camping trip and you had a great time. 🙂

Letter to my Son – July 2013

Dear Son,

You loved your first camping trip this year.  In true ‘boy’ spirit,  you enjoyed picking up sticks and poking around with them.  Collecting rocks and throwing them into the trees.  And chasing bugs all around the campsite.

You went on lots of bike rides in our pull behind trailer, we went on hikes, and even saw our first bear!  We were headed out of a trail and there she was, with her baby cub –  eeek!  She was across the road – and as soon as she saw our dog, she turned around and they both headed back into the trees.  The Rangers told us it was an active bear season this year.

We went into town for ice cream every day 🙂  Played in the park and by the beach.  You seem to be compelled to jump in every puddle you find.  Many times after a quick rain or a walk on the marsh trail, you would be the only soaking wet one.  Especially after you tripped and fell in a huge puddle on one of our hikes!  I love watching you discover new things and it’s ok to stumble a little along the way.  🙂

Fall seven times, stand up eight.”

Letter to my Son – June 2013

Dear Son,

At the beginning of this month we were in CO for a wedding.  You did really well on our long car ride.  Got to see a new movie: Monsters Inc, but your favorite was still Mickey Mouse!  You loved visiting the Rocky Mountains and seeing all the animals. Up close you weren’t so sure.  The horses at the stable were soooo big and a little bit scary.  But you liked watching the elk.  By the end of our trip, it was routine to see a huge elk wander across our path!  We drove into the Park almost every day.  But as we drove up those curvy roads higher into the mountains, you would fall asleep.  So I included some pictures for you so you could see where we spent a part of our time each day of our trip 🙂

So… get on your way!”

Letter to my Daughter – June 2013

While we were in CO this month you caught your first fish!  You also really wanted to pet a horse, so the first day in Estes Park we drove around to find a horse stable so you could pet one.  You still don’t want to ride yet, but you enjoy talking with them up close for now.

You really wanted to go to the petting zoo in Ft Collins one day so we drove all the way into town only to find out it was closed. 😦  We got to pet a cow though.  He was hanging out just by the gate to the zoo. We settled for the nearby park and lunch at Chuck E Cheeses.

You were really excited to see Cinderella at the wedding (AKA the Bride).  And you got to dress up in a frilly, pink dress 🙂

The weather was chilly and windy most of the days we were there, but we still got to see lots of fun stuff and drive up into the Park each day.  We watched Elk, Deer and Big Horned Sheep.  You were really excited to see the snow in the mountains – even though we had just come off of a really long snowy winter in ND.  When we got up high enough you could walk in it.  Even though it was the beginning of June, the walls of snow beside the road were still 15-20 feet high at the higher altitudes.

We drove there with your grandparents and had fun along the way. Stopping in Spearfish for the night to relax and swim, stopping at the little towns for snacks and watching new movies on your DVD player 🙂
